Majestic Etna

Today your ride will begin from the stable Ardichetto, through old roads and paths of woodlands until you reach “Val Calanna”, the valley that kept lava from flowing towards the Zafferana village during the 1992 eruption. You will reach the famous “Ilice di Carrinu”, a beautiful large ancient tree about 700 years old. After a short photo stop the riding continues in direction “Etna Nord” where you will have a nice picnic. After lunch you will visit the “Sartorius” craters (approximately 1700 a.s.l.) (1865), then you will reach your accommodation “Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi”. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast you ride towards “Piano Provenzana”, famous as Ski resort during winter time, until reaching the famous volcanic cone “Monte Nero” (approximately 2049 a.s.l.). Along your ride you will be able to admire some particular craters also called “Hornitos” and lava flows from different periods. You will ride in turns through forest and typical volcanic landscapes. You climb in direction “La Bottoniera” (approximately 2150 a.s.l.) where you will see a succession of craters from the latest great eruption of 2002. You will then descend in direction “Altomontana”, a wide path at an average height of 1700m a.s.l., drawing a half circle around Mt Etna, where you can explore on horseback the characteristics of the volcan: old craters, stone forests, woodland, old lava flows. You ride towards the forest “Timparossa” until you reach the cave “Grotta dei Lamponi” or Raspberry cave, formed by old lava flows. After visiting the cave you will ride towards the “Grotta delle Palombe” cave where you will enjoy your picnic. After lunch you continue your adventure to reach again the “Altomontana“ path and then your accommodation at “Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi”. Dinner and Overnight.

Departure from the” Clan dei Ragazzi”, crossing the forest you will intercept the famous lava flows of 2002 that razed to the ground “Piano Provenzana”, including souvenir shops and the two hotels. Then you will coast to Monte “Crisimo”, pass by the refuge “Pietra Cannone” and cross the territories of “Fornazzo” and “Milo” where you will have a picnic. After lunch you will pass through “Zafferana Etnea” and finally return to the stables.
